چکیده

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the outcome in early treatment of subtrochanteric fractures with proximal femur locking compression plate (PF-LCP).The patients included in this study were those with subtrochanteric fractures (AO type 32A-C) treated with PF-LCP (Synthes) between Jan 2009 and Jun 2011. The patient characteristics and details of clinical conditions were obtained from records. Clinical and radiographic follow-ups were done at one, two, four and 6 months intervals, and at one year. The primary outcome studied included fracture union and functional ambulatory status. Twenty-six patients were included in the study, 19 of whom were male with a mean age of 42.4 years. Fourteen patients (53.9%) had sustained AO type 32B fractures, the majority in motor vehicle accidents. Twenty-two fractures (84.6%) achieved union, while sixpatients (23.1%) had complications such as broken plate, varus collapse, and broken screw. Four patients (15.4%) underwent a second operation. At the end of the follow-ups, 25 patients (96.2%) were community ambulators. We conclude that PF-LCP is an effective alternative treatment for subtrochanteric fractures when properly performed. KEY WORDS Subtrochateric fracture, Proximal Femur Locking Compression Plate (PF-LCP), Outcome, Complication, Cerclage wire.

A retrospective analysis of surgically-treated complex proximal femur fractures with proximal femoral locking compression plate☆

Objective Analyze the outcomes of proximal femoral locking compression plate (PF-LCP) in these complex fractures. Methods This study retrospectively analyzed 21 proximal femoral fractures treated with PF-LCP from June 2013 to February 2015. There were 15 females (71%) and six males (29%) with an average age of 61.4 years (range: 34-80 years). The peritrochanteric fractures constituted by inte...

The Outcome of Proximal Humeral Locking Plates in the Management of Three and Four Part Proximal Humeral Fractures in Special Cohort of Young Patients in High Velocity Trauma

Background: Locking plate fixation provides satisfactory outcome following proximal humerus fractures. None of theprevious studies selectively evaluate the outcome in young patients. This study evaluates outcome of locking platesystem in the treatment of acute three- and four-part fractures in young patients. Methods: In this prospective study we included all patients who were less than 60 years...

Adult periarticular locking plates for the treatment of pediatric and adolescent subtrochanteric hip fractures.

Two cases are presented in which adult, precontoured, lower-extremity periarticular locking plates were utilized for fixation of subtrochanteric femur fractures in pediatric patients. Recognition of the fact that a distal tibial locking plate in a small child and a proximal tibial locking plate in an adolescent anatomically ft the proximal femur in each case may provide a surgeon treating subtr...

Treatment of femoral subtrochanteric fractures with proximal lateral femur locking plates

OBJECTIVE To study the outcome of subtrochanteric hip fractures treated with proximal lateral femur locking plate. METHOD We retrospectively reviewed the clinical results of 48 cases of femoral subtrochanteric fractures treated with proximal lateral femur locking plates from January 2008 to May 2010. The progress of fracture healing, as well as the occurrence of complications, was recorded. T...

Reverse distal femoral locking compression plate a salvage option in nonunion of proximal femoral fractures

BACKGROUND When primary fixation of proximal femoral fractures with implants fails, revision osteosynthesis may be challenging. Tracts of previous implants and remaining insufficient bone stock in the proximal femur pose unique problems for the treatment. Intramedullary implants like proximal femoral nail (PFN) or surface implants like Dynamic Condylar Screw (DCS) are few of the described impla...
